BRAVES at-home reading program

Our BRAVES at-home reading program for kindergarten-3rd grade students, will begin on October 3, 2025. The recording forms will be in your child's BEE binder this year.

Children in kindergarten and first grade are challenged to read 100 books. Second and third grade students are challenged to read 2000 minutes. All students will have until April 17, 2026 to complete this task. Students that complete this challenge will be rewarded with a special event in May. There are 3 dates during the duration of the program to help students stay on track. Students that reach these measureup goals will receive a brag tag for their backpacks.

Reading can be done by the students or you can read aloud to your child.

Parent Teacher Conferences

It is hard to believe we will be at the end of the 1st quarter and be meeting for parent teacher conferences this month! It must be true that time flies when you are having fun.

Please be watching Parent Square for information on how to sign up for a parent conference. We strive to meet with 100% of our families and feel it important to take the time to meet in person to discuss your child and their progress at school.

Book Fair

The Scholastic Book Fair will be at KES each evening during the week of October 28-31. After meeting with your child's teacher, come visit the book fair.

Mrs. Bowman will be sending out more information regarding times the book fair will be open as well as highlighting some of the great titles you will be able to find.

Stay tuned to Parent Square for more information as we get closer to BOOK FAIR time!!
 

Brag Tags

Students will have the opportunity to earn brag tags this year for a variety of accomplishments. These will hang on their backpacks. Please try to keep them on as students will be adding to their rings all school year.

Brag tags can be earned in many different ways:
  • monthly for perfect attendance
  • Star of the Day nominations
  • meeting BRAVES reading program goals
  • meeting iReady growth goals
Be watching for more bling added to your child's backpack!
 

Meet Mrs. Ernsting

Mrs. Ernsting is the principal at KES. She is entering her 7th year as principal. Prior to being the principal she taught at Kirbyville for 17 years. She has been a 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade teacher. She is getting used to seeing the children of former students coming through the doors of KES and is trying not to feel old!

When not at work, Mrs. Ernsting grows a large garden, bakes, and loves to go camping or just be outside. She loves to read (or listen to audiobooks). Her favorite part of every day is morning drop off duty. Starting her day with smiles, hugs, and good morning greetings is the best!

Mandy will respond to your message (PSQ, email, or voicemail) so you know we received it

If you will be picking your child up early or making an end of day change, please be sure those changes are made NO LATER than 2:45 p.m.

If you need to talk with a teacher, please contact them through Parent Square. Please be respectful of family time for teachers as well when messaging.
